Annual Awards Banquet, The Rhinecliff, 4 Grinnell St., Rhinecliff NY

The Mid-Hudson Kennel Association holds an annual Eye Clinic each fall. It is usually held at the Rhinebeck Animal Hospital, Rhinebeck, NY (see map) in either October or November depending on the schedule of the ophthalmologist.

Dr. Thomas Kern, a board certified ophthalmologist from Cornell University, has been conducting the Clinic for the past several years. This is a CERF (Canine Eye Registration Foundation) Clinic. CERF works to eliminate heritable eye disease in purebred dogs through its registry and research. Specialists certified by the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists provide painless examinations of dogs and send their findings to the CERF headquarters at Purdue University. This information is helpful in studying trends in eye disease and breed susceptibility.

This year’s Clinic was held on Sunday, October 25, and over a hundred dogs had their eyes examined. Remember--the eye clinic is not just for MHKA members' dogs--anyone can sign up to have their dog's eyes checked. Dr. Kern will even do an eye exam for cats and other pets.
